Ketamine (KET), also known as "Carmen", "K" and "Special K" , is a non-barbiturate anesthetic and analgesic widely used in veterinary medicine and emergency care. It enables the users to enter a state of consciousness where they are disconnected from their surroundings. Ketamine can be administered orally, nasally (snorted), smoked, or injected. Its primary effects typically last about one hour, but its influence on sensory perception, motor coordination, and judgment can persist for 16–24 hours, causing symptoms include nausea, vomiting, double or blurred vision, distorted imagery, temporary amnesia, and physical imbalance.
