Human Adenovirus (HAdV) is a DNA virus responsible for various respiratory infections, with a higher prevalence among young children due to their underdeveloped humoral immunity. Epidemics can arise in closed or crowded settings, such as among healthy children or military recruits, where transmission is facilitated. Severe HAdV infections are typically managed with cidofovir, an antiviral agent approved for cytomegalovirus treatment, though its efficacy for HAdV has not been validated through clinical trials.

HAdV infections occur year-round but are more frequently observed in temperate regions during late winter, spring, and early summer.
