Creatine kinase-MB isozyme is a dimeric soluble protein in cardiac muscle. Following myocardial damage, CK-MB is rapidly released into the bloodstream within 4 to 6 hours after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Therefore, it can be detected by CK-MB test which is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the detection of cardiac CK-MB. This test can be used together with other diagnostic methods (such as Troponin I and/or Myoglobin tests) to assess cardiac damage caused by AMI.
